Veterinary Assistant careers present new challenges and opportunities that exist in nursing a sick dog, preparing a cat for a life-saving surgery and helping smaller patients recover quickly. Veterinary Assistants perform a wide range of skills as part of the veterinary medical team. Veterinary Assistants work at the Veterinarian's side, helping to keep animals healthy. They provide assistance to Veterinarians in primary animal care, radiology, anesthesia, nursing, laboratory tests, surgical assisting, office management and client education. Clients depend on them for a wide range of services including helping prevent and relieve suffering of animals, treating injuries, providing preventive medicine procedures, and education on maximizing pet's lives through better health care. Veterinary Assistants participate in a variety of exciting and important veterinary services and procedures.
THE VETERINARY ASSISTANT SCHOOL
The Veterinary Assistant school provides instruction in a professional environment from highly qualified instructors. The Veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, and Veterinary Assistants that teach have many years of experience and are respected and recognized in the industry. These professionals will teach, monitor progress and give personal attention to Veterinary Assistant students. Instruction is divided between lecture, laboratory and externship experiences.
Visual demonstration and practical skills are learned in both the classroom and veterinary clinics. Veterinary Assistant students receive a strong background of knowledge in animal anatomy, physiology, lab, pharmacology, and surgical assistance in the classroom. Educational preparation in these areas offers the perfect balance of conceptual knowledge and technical skills that will be applied in the Externship. Clinical practice under the supervision of veterinary professionals will supplement the textbook. Veterinary Assitant students will have the opportunity to learn in several different Veterinary Clinics and Hospitals to gain knowledge.
Licensed Veterinarians assist in the Externship portion of the program. In this part of the program, the veterinary assistant student is placed in a Veterinary office where they apply practical skills and theories they have learned in the classroom. Clinical practice under the supervision of veterinary professionals will supplement the textbooks.

The Veterinary Assistant Program is intended to train individuals to gain knowledge, basic skills and abilities necessary to perform in a veterinary office at an entry level position. The school program is designed for students who would like to assist the Veterinarian in maximizing the health care of animals. The Veterinary Assistant Student will learn basic nursing care for domestic animals under the direction of the Veterinarian and veterinary professionals. Veterinary Assistant Students will learn to assist in the operation of a veterinary practice. The Veterinary Assistant will learn the basics of first aid, anatomy, routine care, emergency care, surgical preparation and basic nursing techniques. The Veterinary Assistant student will learn how animals communicate, animal behavior, training, and the life cycles of young, adult and senior animals. Veterinary Assistant Students will learn teamwork and how to excel in the veterinary office.

Veterinary Assistant II Program
The Veterinary Assistant II program is an expansion of the Veterinary Assistant I program. This Veterinary Assistant school program includes everything in the Veterinary Assistant I program. In addition, the curriculum of this program is expanded to include large animal, exotics, equine, avian, pocket pets, and reptile veterinary care. The student will also learn basic computer usage that is used in a veterinary office. This program will go into more extensive detail than the Veterinary Assistant I program.
In the first twelve weeks of this program, Veterinary Assistant Students are taught in the classroom through an established curriculum. In the second thirteen weeks of the program, in-depth studies of large animals, exotics, equine, avian, pocket pets, and reptiles are given. In this portion of the program Veterinary Assistant Students will have actual hands-on experience in the veterinary office (the Externship). Guest speakers and course related field trips will be conducted. In the last thirteen weeks of the program the Veterinary Asssistant student Externship will be more intensive. Students will return to the classroom weekly to review what they have learned in the clinics.
